HEALING WITH SAFE TOUCH There are no accurate statistics on the numbers of boys and girls, men and women who have been abused and/or sexually abused in our country and in the world. Because of the secrecy of this dis-ease, many who have experienced physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or sexual abuses are living in silence. Those who have been willing to speak out are often rejected by those who do not believe this sort of thing can happen in their own good families. This is not the case. It can happen and it does. "Safe Touch" is important to me as a bodyworker, as a woman committed to peace, as a member of the human race and as a survivor. All people have the right to feel safe in their bodies, in their families, in their relationships and in their work environments. People have a right to feel safe when they go to a doctor, massage therapist or other healing professional. The sooner we learn about these matters, insist on "Safe Touch" and appropriate boundaries, the sooner we will heal and take back our power and our voices. For this reason, this Oasis House website provides a safe and confidential space for those who wish to share their stories and/or experiences, and end the silence. Unsafe touch in whatever form is abuse and/or sexual abuse and becomes stored in the nervous systems. With the guided assistance of a safe, caring, sensitive and respectful bodworker working with "Safe Touch Principles" an individual who has decided to stop the pain and heal the trauma--from the past, present or both, can do so. Our Innate Wisdom will
often continue to bring people upon our paths who will re-trigger old
abuses, so we can once and for all....speak out, set appropriate
boundaries for how we want our bodies to be treated and heal it at its
core, so we can move on to assist ourselves and others in living the
full out pleasurable lives we were intended to live!

| The below mentioned book is one in which many have found informative and useful in understanding the neurochemical connections between addictive behaviors and patterns and the path to healing and recovery. | |
|
"SMOKE
AND MIRRORS" Smoke
and Mirrors makes the chemically dependent person come alive for the
reader as a plausible being, despite the compulsiveness, the
impulsiveness, the ruthlessness, and the dishonesty...not just as a
target for our contempt and rejection, nor as one to be excused and
pitied but as a powerful and clever deceiver--so clever that s/he fools
her/himself |

| In this deceptively simple book, Ms. England has made accessible for both professionals and the general public the theory linking neurochemical science to the behaviors and relational patterns observed in persons with addictions and those who love them. As a professional working with families ravaged by addiction, and as a member of Al-Anon seeking to grow and be a good steward of the life experiences that are mine, I am challenged by this book to seek ways to apply its techniques with clients and my own life...Ms. England's book reminds me in the particularly memorable way of any good story...that there is both danger and delight in this activity of living. | |
